Hi — I’m Nick. This is a small side project, not a company. Here’s the story behind it.

The formula

Many years ago, my wife met an old lady who shared an Eastern European folk formula for predicting — or trying to “select” — a baby’s gender, based on the birth months of both parents and the month of conception. The old lady said the method had been passed down through families since the Austro-Hungarian era.

The math wasn’t easy to do by hand, and there wasn’t a calculator for it anywhere online. So I built one for us. That little tool became the main predictor on this site.

Did it work for us?

We used the predictor twice while planning our own family — first for a boy, then years later for a girl. Both predictions came true. Was it the formula or just luck? Honestly, we lean toward luck. Getting two coin flips right in a row is a 1-in-4 chance, which isn’t extraordinary — but we won’t pretend it didn’t feel pretty special at the time.

When I tested the formula against the conception months of friends, relatives, and their kids, it lined up more often than I expected. Interesting — but not science. We don’t claim the formula works, and we’d never tell anyone to make a major life decision based on it.

Why I kept adding to the site

What started as a one-off calculator grew once I realized how rich the world of gender-prediction folklore actually is. Almost every culture has its own clever way of guessing — the Chinese lunar chart, ring-on-a-string, food cravings, the Mayan calendar method, and dozens more. Most of them are equally unproven, but they’re a fascinating window into how people have thought about pregnancy for thousands of years.

So I slowly added the rest of the site: a 5-year calendar predictor, the Chinese chart, a myths and folklore page, and a resources page covering the real medical methods (PGD, MicroSort, Shettles, etc.) for anyone who wants the science instead of the folklore.

What this site is and isn’t

This site is a fun tool for playing with folk-tradition gender predictors, plus a friendly guide to the broader world of pregnancy folklore.

This site is not:

How it’s run

It’s a one-person hobby project, maintained alongside a day job and family life. Hosting is essentially free (it’s a static site), and Google AdSense ads cover the domain renewal.

I don’t collect or sell visitor data. The predictors run entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is sent anywhere. See the Privacy Policy for the details.
